An Efficient Model for the Coupling Beam Using Damping Devices in Coupled Shear Wall Structures under Earthquake Loads

This paper proposes a new element for modeling the energy-dissipation coupling beam to analyze coupled shear wall structure under seismic loading. The includes 2 rigid beams and an energy dissipation device in middle. stiffness matrix is derived based on principles of nonlinear mechanics. A procedure incremental-iterative solution built using Newmark method adopted solving equation motion. computer program Matlab developed behavior frame analogy which modeled from couped structure. Several numerical examples are presented verify with commercial finite package SAP2000. results proved that proposed efficient reliable. then applied 30-story devices. As result, locations provide effective resistance region 5th 15th floor or assigned all floors.
